Body Language During a Career Interview

The company that you sent your resume to called and set up an interview, whats next? Remember to dress neatly, be on time and look the interviewer in the eye, putting your best foot forward.

Perhaps the largest part of interview is your body language, which is more effective than the spoken word and can influence a potential employers decision. Try to remember that within the first five minutes an interviewer will have already noted your body language and visual impression so make them count.

The interview is a way to get more information on the company, to give the company information on you and deciding whether or not you want the job. Your employer has certain goals in mind when conducting an interview such as how well your qualifications match those of the company as well as how you would fit in with the rest of the staff.

Your work experience is much more likely to interest an employer over your formal education. Details are very important when answering questions in an interview. Confidently emphasize your accomplishments from your past positions. Be sure to recount the things that were listed in the ad that brought you here to begin with when asked why you want to work for them. This is not an invitation to say anything bad about your former employer. A good answer when asked what you can bring to the company is to point out your supervisory skills or something all the same lines. Never talk about money if an interviewer asks you what this company can offer you that your previous one cannot, it is better to mention growth and new challenges.

Think before you answer if you get asked any tough questions. Telling an interviewer that you like working in a close atmosphere if they ask which you prefer, a big or small company, is fine if they are a smaller company, if they are not so small then perhaps say something like you enjoy the stability a larger company can offer.

Practice may be needed before you feel comfortable so a few practice interviews are a good way to go about it.
